Nestled along the banks of Turner’s Creek is the Deen family’s brand-new restaurant, Paula Deen’s Creek House. With a nod to the coast from the beautiful blue hues and found driftwood hanging on the walls, guests can expect delicious Southern and seafood classics, along with the Deen Brothers’ signature barbecue!

With great outdoor seating and lots of cozy booths, this family-friendly eatery is open and ready for guests looking for great food, great service, and a great time! The grand opening was on Memorial Day, and some favorite dishes are already standing out, including the chargrilled oysters, the Deen Brothers’ BBQ Pulled Pork Tacos, and peel-and-eat shrimp (pro tip: dip the delicious house bread in the leftover juices). Of course, the menu has options for everyone: salads, sandwiches, seafood, and barbecue. Lighter options, like Brooke’s Savannah Salmon, Seared Ahi Tuna, and the Strawberry Chicken Salad have been popular, along with more traditional dishes, like Soft-Shell Crab Gumbo, and fried seafood.

This restaurant has truly been a labor of love down to every last detail. In fact, Jamie hand-made the American flag made of pallets that you’ll find in the restaurant and picked up the large driftwood piece hanging in the restaurant after Hurricane Matthew. Even the salad dressings are homemade! It’s all in the little touches. They created a restaurant that they would not only be proud to own, but also thrilled to visit as a customer. It’s a place for date night or dinner with the family. There’s great draft beer, baseball on the TV’s, an awesome bar, and plenty of space for the kids to play.

After you get your fill of good food and drinks, check out the store, located at the front of the restaurant. You can bring home some seasonings, sauces, or kitchenware to recreate some of the yummy dishes found on the menu.

What a beauty with her moss-covered trees forming a lace canopy over nearly every street. In addition to her visual beauty, the air is lightly perfumed with the gentle fragrance of magnolia trees laced with citrus. Savannah engages all five senses and helps cultivate the sixth!

Today’s Paula’s Perfect Plate is dedicated to the magical city of Savannah. This delicious menu blends robust flavors, exciting variety, and ample servings to create a menu as unique as its inspiration.

The day begins with a Savannah Omelet with Shrimp, Cherry Tomatoes, and Scallions with a side of fresh fruit, followed by a yummy mid-morning snack of lightly salt-and-peppered tomato slices and a helping of low-fat cottage cheese. You will not be disappointed with lunch when you enjoy Paula’s Eggplant Lasagna and my Grape Salad. In the late afternoon, treat yourself to my Protein-Rich Spinach Salad. Finally, wrap up the day with a dinner to die for… Cowboy Rib Eyes with Caramelized Mushrooms and Shallots with a heaping serving of steamed broccoli with lemon wedges!

It’s hard to believe that this Savannah-inspired menu is also part of a perfectly balanced day’s nutrition!

This pimiento cheese started out in life as my Bobby’s favorite. Along the way, I decided to change the name because the fan club just kept on growing. Well, in homage to Bobby, I have made this staple of mine better for you by subbing out Greek yogurt for mayonnaise. You’ll find this cheese is as creamy as it ever was without the added fat and calories the mayo brought along with it. And with that small change, it’s once again Bobby’s favorite pimiento cheese!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons chopped pimientos
  • 1 teaspoon grated onion (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Paula Deen’s House Seasoning (see page 6)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 3 ounces low-fat cream cheese (Neufchâtel), at room temperature
  • Whole-grain crackers and crisp veggies for serving

Directions

In a medium bowl, whisk together the yogurt, pimientos, onion (if using), House Seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and dry mustard. Add the Cheddar, Monterey Jack, and cream cheese and stir well until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined. Serve with whole-grain crackers and lots of crisp veggies.

 Makes about 2 cups cheese
