It is a very good recipe though

I wish I could remember who taught me. Very similar recipe, although no recipe is actually needed. I do tend to take shortcuts these days. Poached chicken breasts and unsalted box stock. As for my dumplings, PAP flour, dried parsley, fresh ground pepper, a dash of garlic sauce and I use the unsalted box stock for the liquid. No fat. Knees 20 minutes or until the gluten forms. Rest while making the soup. I use the chicken celery, stock and black pepper. Kneed the dough again. Roll out. Slice into strips and again into rectangles. Toss into boiling soup till done. The flour from the dumplings thickens the soup. My go to when anyone has a tummy ache or I just want true Southern comfort food.

Oops wrong again. If you like chewy, dense dumplings that stick to your teeth, this is it. I will stick to my self rising flour from now on. We like pillow-y dumplings at our house! Otherwise, recipe is spot-on. Like another reviewer pointed out, 4 quarts of water is probably double what you really need. Use 2 quarts and add some milk along with your canned soup before dropping in your dumplings, it makes all the difference.

The recipe is easy to follow and works with chicken on bone or removed from bone after cooking. The dumplings are simple perfection! Going to make this a staple in this house.

I have been making this for years. My mom called it slippery pot pie. You can also use ham and ham broth to make it. I don’t use the canned soup. The ”dumplings” will thicken the mixture. I do gently stir mine to keep it from sticking to the pan.
